A journey into the poetic universe of the Tudor dynasty. From William Lawes’ mythical (and very rarely performed!) harp consorts to the melancholy of Orlando Gibbons – passing through William Byrd’s shimmering preludes and Tallis’ divine hymns.
The music of the Tudor era is atmospheric, meditative, and magnificent, with resonant voices intertwining in wondrous constellations. Experience William Byrd’s ode to his mentor Thomas Tallis in the motet Ye Sacred Muses, with the touching words: “Tallis is dead, and music dies…”

Cantus Avium Copenhagen is a professional Danish solo-voice ensemble specializing in English Renaissance polyphony. It was founded out of a shared love for Tudor music, including the works of composer William Byrd. The name Cantus Avium is inspired by Byrd himself and means "birdsong" in Latin, referencing the English wordplay Byrdsong.
